Our Story

Hi! We’re Shiv & Shikha, the husband and wife team behind Bombay Sandwich Co. As healthy and active New Yorkers we’ve always craved fresh and nutritious food to accommodate our busy lifestyle, but we grew tired of the same old options – fried food, soggy salad, imitation meat and gluten products trying to taste like something else. Where did all of the “real food” go?

So in 2012, we took matters into our own hands and debuted our original recipes at the renowned Brooklyn food festival, Smorgasburg. It was there under a little tent that we developed a loyal following of foodies who loved our fresh, seasonal ingredients and homemade chutneys and pickles sandwiched between slices of whole grain goodness.

Word soon got out that Bombay Sandwich Co. was filling a gastronomic niche in NYC – one where “Taste Is King” meets “My Body Is My Temple”, centered on cooking gently with just fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and select Ayurvedic herbs and spices.

So after catering for New York City’s tech scene, art galleries, fundraisers and private party circuit, we decided to open our first brick and mortar shop in Manhattan’s bustling intersection of the Chelsea, Flatiron and NoMad neighborhoods.

From tent to table, we’re very humbled and thankful to be serving our style of cooking to the public. One where everything is made from scratch from simple ingredients the way our mothers and grandmothers did. We love what we do, and we hope that our message resonates with you, too!

Our Philosophy

It’s simple – start with fresh, whole and natural foods, then chop, mix and prepare gently. All of our food is made from scratch using just fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and select Ayurvedic herbs and spices. That’s it!

We get our flavor from grinding whole spices in small batches. Those spices, by the way, are known to have significant health benefits, from aiding in digestion to reducing inflammation. All good stuff that when combined together adds up to a healthy, feel good meal that satisfies and energizes without slowing you down.

Yelp Reviews

Was immediately attracted by the storefront and the awesome looking logo. Great place. Great sandwiches and bowls. All vegetarian. As a lover of Indian food I thought this place was an very well executed modern spin on the cuisine. The chana masala sandwich gives a flavor punch that’ll leave your face sore for a week in the best possible way.

The whole place is vegetarian, Delicious, and fresh! I had the channa masala sandwich of course and it was gone in about 5 minutes!
I highly highly recommend this place for the vegetarian and carnivore alike!

Excellent and unique food! Beyond anything I have ever had. LOVED every bite of the Chana Masala Sandwich and their awesome grilled cheese. The owner is very sweet and genuine. Definitely recommend to anyone, especially if you’re vegetarian or vegan.
